Open PhD Positions
While we do not have a public call for PhD positions at the moment, several opportunities are available:
-
NHR Call: If you plan to start your PhD in April 2026, consider applying for a PhD scholarship by NHR. The next deadline is in September 2025. This funding, which covers 3 years without teaching obligations, has already supported two of our current PhD students.
-
International Grants: Applicants from abroad can apply for grants from various funding agencies. For instance, DAAD offers research grants for PhD students from nearly all countries of origin. A full doctoral programme grant in Germany is primarily available for candidates from developing and emerging countries. Please note that applications for these grants must be submitted several months before your planned start date.
-
EUTOPIA PhD Co-Tutelle Program:
From time to time, positions may become available through the EUTOPIA co-tutelle call. This program supports PhD projects co-supervised by me as a faculty member at TU Dresden and a professor from another EUTOPIA member university. It offers fellowships for 3 to 4 years and aims to foster internationally co-developed, high-quality research. TU Dresden may serve as either the HOME (funding) or HOST (co-supervising) institution. -
Proposal-Driven Funding: If you have a rough idea for your PhD topic (or are simply highly interested in the group’s research areas), contact me and we can work together on a funding proposal (e.g., for DFG Sachbeihilfe). If approved, this could secure a full PhD position (TVL E13) with funding for 3 years, including travel support. Keep in mind that the review process can take up to six months, so early engagement is recommended.
